Named for the House of the Vettii, the Pompeii villa whose frescoes survived the eruption almost intact, this is Agatho at its most Mediterranean. Fig, quince, arbutus and lemon open sun-warmed and faintly milky before myrrh, pink pepper, coriander, saffron and amber build a resinous, spiced heart. Tolu balsam, cedar, musk, oud, patchouli, sandalwood and benzoin settle into a long balsamic drydown that smells genuinely ancient, incense on warm stone.
